]]>JR: Lou Mensah’s list of achievements in podcasting is certainly impressive. Creating the podcast Shade in 2019, Lou has received recommendations in The Guardian, Esquire Magazine and Grazia, as well as being the silver award winner in the 2019 British Podcast Awards for Best Arts and Culture podcast. So how would Lou describe her podcast Shade – what’s it about?
LM: “My guests champion the work of artists of colour within the wider cultural landscape. I love talking with artists whose work stimulates the senses but also has the scope to create wider conversations about inclusion. Shade is a space to be inspired by artists and their stories.
I remembered how isolated I felt being a self-taught, female photographer of colour in the 90’s, without access to inspiring conversations about art or my place within it. I also had a disability which meant that I couldn’t socialise with other artists. Back then my sense of community came from reading about other artists’ lives. When I decided to create the podcast I wanted to create an intimate and welcoming space for everyone, from established artists to listeners who
simply enjoy the odd gallery visit.”
JR: Like many podcasters, Lou has taken away some personal highlights from her time producing the show.
LM: “A highlight so far has been Season 4 which was in response to the 2020 BLM uprisings. I felt that we needed a space to process how we felt about the arts and its response to the uprisings, and how our work may change as a result. It was also an opportunity to talk with those working within the media whose job it was to respond to that seminal moment in civil rights history. I talked with the Editor of TIME, journalists from i-D and The Guardian, plus curators, photographers and critics about how the uprisings had impacted their work. I was lucky to have guests on the show who had refused to talk to other press outlets during this time.
One guest was a founding member of BLM UK, who entrusted me with his story. I am proud to have created a space for the conversations that are glaringly missing from mainstream broadcasting platforms. Sometimes podcasting can feel like talking into a void, but the response to the show affirms that the podcast caters for an audience eager to engage with and support
these conversations.”
JR: Despite time restraints, Lou is looking to the future and production for an upcoming season is in process.
LM: “As an independent podcaster I only have time to work on the show a few hours a week, so I am proud that in it’s short life Shade has garnered attention and support from some art heavyweights, including from the South London Gallery and Hauser & Wirth for example, who will continue to support Shade next season. For season 5 I am working with the Sound designer Axel Kacoutié and we are taking the show in a completely new direction. We will launch our collaboration online and at an event in September [2022]. I hope to see some Pod Biblers there!”
Shade is now in its eleventh season, but find out more about Lou’s collaboration with Axel Kacoutié, Interludes, here >>

]]>Coco: A progressive politics podcast from an outsider’s perspective, where the listener isn’t talked down to and instead lifted up and encouraged to engage in politics – all through the prism of hope and humour.
Nish: Probably not, but we’ll give it a damn good go. I’m hoping that by asking experts questions about the things that really matter to a lot of us, we can start trying to find solutions to some of the problems facing the country. But look, at the end of the day it’s probably not going to be a podcast that saves us, but the studios are booked so we should realistically press on with it.
Nish: Definitely different by virtue that John, John and Tommy actually have worked in politics and can explain how the sausage is made. Coco and I are more firmly on the side of the sausage consumers (this metaphor has got away from me), so unlike the founders of the company we aren’t experts and won’t be pretending to be.
Coco: We’d love to emulate the rapport between the hosts and the no-bullshit approach you can only really get between actual friends, rather than professionals shoved together for the sake of a podcast.
Nish: Working with Coco has been an absolute dream. We’ve been friends for a long time and I am delighted to have contractually obligated her to hang out with me every week. I look forward to a day when I can force all my friends to spend time with me by paying them money.
Coco: We’re great believers in the power of humour to cut through the nonsense, and being relentless optimists we genuinely believe change is possible. We’re outside the Westminster bubble ourselves and want to represent that position – we want to represent the listener. If you ever find yourself watching politics on TV and feel frustrated that everyone seems like they are on another planet, this is the podcast for you. Plus, there’s a lot of jokes.
Coco: We want to pass the mic to people out there doing good work to make Britain a more equitable place. This is people from inside and outside Westminster -from activists to political scientists, authors and artists.
Nish: Marcus Rashford, both for his good work and also so I could meet Marcus Rashford.
Nish: Obviously the Crooked Media output, but I also really loved being a small part of About Race – a series Reni Eddo Lodge did a few years ago. It was really excellent and is available to download still. Slow Burn is also always great, whether it’s political or about Biggie and Tupac.
Coco: I listen to every Guardian Long Read – I love the depth and breadth of it – and I am partial to a true crime series. Naturally, Serial excel at the narrative series but I also love a self-contained case explored in a single episode, like with Casefile with its almost deadpan, factual approach. And for warm, genuine rapport, the pop culture series, How Did It Get Made cannot be beat.
Nish: I think people would be surprised by the number of football pods I listen to, including Stadio and Guardian Football Weekly.
Nish: I am nice.

]]>The post Suzi Ruffle: “Podcasting is pretty close to stand-up” appeared first on POD BIBLE.
]]>There’s a freedom to podcasting, it’s pretty close to stand up in that respect. You can just create something and put it out, you aren’t waiting for a green light from a production company. You have control that you don’t have in other types of media, you can decide what makes the edit and what content you want to focus on. Creatively it’s quite liberating. It’s also a brilliant way to connect with an audience.
I think it was Cariad Lloyds brilliant podcast Griefcast. It’s a really great podcast where people chat about grief, which sounds like it might be really depressing but it’s actually quite uplifting and hopeful.
I am very lucky that I get to do two podcasts with two brilliant comedians Tom Allen on Like Minded Friends and Maisie Adam on Big Kick Energy and they both make me laugh a lot but its probably deeply cringe to use your own podcast as an answer. I really enjoy Kathy Burke’s podcast Where There’s a Will, There’s a Wake, she always makes me laugh. I also love French and Saunders Titting About, there’s an episode where they’re chat about things that have gone wrong while touring and I was laughing so hard I was crying while driving on a
motorway. Probably not that safe to be honest.
I love Elizabeth Day’s How to Fail. She’s such a great interviewer and manages to ask quite direct and exposing questions without feeling like she’s overstepping a line. She always has such brilliant guests, every week whether you’ve heard of them or not, I always come away feeling like I have learnt something and a little bit more comfortable with my own failures.
Safe Space is a brilliant podcast hosted by friends Emma and Hester, it is a show about queer history confirming the fact that the queer community has always been around. My favourite episodes include ‘How Roman’s made the Yuletide Gay’, ‘Berlins Queer History’ and a recent episode on the Ballroom scene from its beginnings in the 1870’s. Fascinating stuff!

]]>The post Kemah Bob: “My opinion isn’t being held back” appeared first on POD BIBLE.
]]>I love podcasts for the autonomy they offer both consumers and creators. As a podcaster I appreciate the freedom to discuss what I want to, how I want to. My opinion isn’t being held back by a board of trustees or behind walls of compliance. My creativity isn’t held back by prescribed structure, or what people are used to listening to at 10 am. I’m not saying people should go around saying and doing what they want without consequences. There’s an old saying in the Black American community: f*ck around and find out. I just think the world is more fun when folks have the freedom to f*ck around.
The first podcast I had ever heard was WTF with Marc Maron. This was back in the day before I was a comedian, before I ever aspired to be a guest (pretty please Mr. Maron with a microphone on top). What delighted me about it was its simplicity and spirit. It was just a hilarious man talking to his guests about life, which often led to Marc using humour to navigate quite tender things. Not to be a wimp, but that’s quite an important life skill.
Oh, this is definitely a tie between Helen Bauer and Josh Jones. Listening to Helen and Josh makes me wonder if I’ve lived a life – because if I have then why don’t I have a zillion incredible stories on tap? Listening to them makes me both concerned that childhood trauma has robbed me of my memory, and concerned for their safety. Maniacs. Helen can be heard on her pod Trusty Hogs and her old pod Daddy Look at Me, Josh can be heard on his new pod Hard Sell and his old new pod Chatting with Cherubs.
Hands down, The Guilty Feminist podcast. I don’t think I truly understood what being a feminist meant before I encountered it. I knew how I felt, what I believed. I knew that something was wrong with Texas. I knew that there were forces working to hold women back and weigh us down, but I didn’t have the language to express it.
I have had the privilege of co-hosting The Guilty Feminist, and sitting next to Deborah Francis-White over the past 4 years while we meet activists has taught me so much about myself and the world.
The Homecoming Podcast with Dr. Thema. Before I go on, I want you to know I do realize that none of these answers have been funny. This one won’t be either – it’s gunna be sincere and earnest. For that I’m sorry. The show’s purpose is to “facilitate your journey home to yourself” using psychology, spirituality and artistic practice. I’m an incredibly spiritual person but you don’t have to be to connect to this offering. You just need to be curious about yourself, your needs, your healing and living your (wait for it…) best life.
Over the past few years, when I’ve found myself feeling hurt, lost or far from myself, this podcast has been a beautiful resource. It features 30 minute episodes on topics ranging from addressing self abandonment, overcoming perfectionism, even dealing with racial trauma. It’s an incredibly important resource and I’m honoured to recommend it.

]]>The post THE GOOD SAMARITAN // It’s Your Hormones! appeared first on POD BIBLE.
]]>Dr Sohère Roked is a GP, hormone expert and an adept host for the podcast It’s Your Hormones – the inspiration for the show came from a place quite close to home, or should that be quite close to work…?
The podcast was an idea of one of my patients actually! They felt the conversation we had in my clinic room was so powerful for them and suggested talking to
patients during the podcast who feel comfortable sharing their stories about their own hormone journeys. I started the podcast to spread the message about why hormones are so important and how they can affect everyone. As a GP I was seeing so many patients with symptoms that I couldn’t find the reason for, be it low mood, low energy, sleep issues, even aches and pains – when I learnt about hormones and how they can affect every area of health it was a lightbulb moment for me. As well as treating hormone issues day in and day out, I want to give people as much information as possible about hormones so they can know how it may be affecting their own health and more importantly what they can do about it.
Like most podcasts, the guests are the key component to accessible conversations to which everyone can be a part of.
I’ve been so lucky that people have felt comfortable to share their stories. Some of them are really personal, about menopause and the loss of sense of self and identity, to my good friend Mike sharing his story of depression and suicidal thoughts before he got diagnosed with low testosterone. Catherine shared her story of struggling to conceive and then coping with two little kids and her busy job, and how balancing her hormones, thyroid and taking testosterone as a woman has helped her manage everything. Tiffany shared a really interesting story about her gut health and feeling bloated and unwell for months before we worked together and diagnosed her with SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth). I’ve also been open with my own hormone story and how I’ve worked hard to sort out my hormone levels, especially my cortisol and adrenal stress hormones. We’ve also talked about how to manage the menstrual cycle with diet and exercise and lifestyle changes, which is more commonly known as ‘cycle syncing’. It’s been so lovely to get messages from people telling me how much they’ve enjoyed the podcast, or learning about an aspect of health they didn’t know about, such as low testosterone in men, or how vitamin D can really affect mood and energy.
With an important message and mission, Dr Sohère Roked shows no signs of slowing down and aims to keep the dialogue going, as well as keeping up with her personal projects and passions:
I’m excited to keep interviewing guests for the podcast and spreading the word about hormonal health. I have just got back from climbing to Everest Base Camp, and I’m planning on running the London Marathon next year. I also volunteer with Care4Calais in London, where we support refugees and asylum seekers with clothing, support and I also help teach English classes which is really rewarding.

]]>AZ: I love the authenticity of them, the best podcasts for me are when you feel like you’re genuinely listening in to a conversation between friends, almost eavesdropping as opposed to being spoken to directly by the hosts. When you get the feel that a podcast has been overly edited for me it loses that naturalism that I think the very best podcasts have. Also, there’s no other medium that allows such a wealth of information to be dispensed to the listener in such an entertaining fashion. The fact that podcasts are these longform chats between people who know their subject matter inside out for the most part, makes them incredibly
Is it bad that it was one of my own!? I mean, this was years ago, and it wasn’t even called a podcast despite being exactly that. It had the snappy title of Mars Planets MySpace Radio. That should give you an idea of how old it is seeing as Mars Planets don’t exist anymore. Neither does MySpace really. I hosted a podcast with a different MySpace user each week and we played out the best tracks from unsigned bands on MySpace. Anyway, I listened to that in around 2006 which I think factually makes it the first.
I love Wrestle Me, the podcast hosted by Marc Haynes and Pete Donaldson. I’m not even a massive wrestling fan but the two of them together are brilliant and I find the journey through the history of all the Wrestlemanias and Marc’s knowledge of the sport ridiculously entertaining.
As a writer I find John August and Craig Mazin’s Scriptnotes a really useful podcast. They offer some great analysis of different genres of film and TV as well as giving their insight into the industry itself. So yeah, I’d say that’s probably educated me the most, especially when I started writing. Also, I don’t think anyone knows as much about Bond as John Rain on SmershPod, so in terms of an education in 007, that show is a must.
I really enjoy Friends With Friends, where Dave Cribb and Pete Allison are going through and analysing every Friends episode is great fun. Also, the eternally affable Tom Price does My Mate Bought A Toaster, where he interviews guests based on their Amazon purchase history is a lovely listen.

]]>The post THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO… Kelechi Okafor appeared first on POD BIBLE.
]]>To mark the moment, we’re returning to our Issue #017 cover star interview. This is the Gospel According To Kelechi Okafor…
Actor? Director? Dance innovator? Social commenter? D*ckhead in recovery? Baby girl? Kelechi Okafor wears many hats and as her podcast grew she built herself the perfect platform to show each one off in all its glory. We caught up with the Say Your Mind host back in October 2021 to chat all things podcasting…

KO: Say Your Mind is the current affairs podcast that you might not want to listen to on loudspeaker at work, but you definitely want to listen to regardless. The podcast expertly combines tarot, current affairs and pop culture into one expletive filled fun time and is delivered to you from the perspective of a Nigerian-British Baby Girl. I am the Baby Girl FYI.
I enjoy podcasting a lot because I love sharing my thoughts and I find it much easier than typing, although I am pretty mean on the keyboard when it comes to tweeting! On the subject of tweeting though, the thoughts you share can be taken down at any time and that’s why I like podcasting because I am in control.
A good podcast host should be able to tell you something you already knew but deliver it to you in such a way that you think you’re hearing that thing for the first time. It is about having a fresh, confident attitude about whatever it is that you’re discussing and ultimately wanting your listener to already miss you the moment that episode is done.
Be patient! That is the number one piece of advice I would give myself and anybody else who is starting out as a podcaster. I worried so much about whether people would listen to Say Your Mind, and then I worried about when I would get enough listeners to enable me to have live read sponsors etc. I spent a lot of time being impatient about getting to the markers of what makes a “successful” podcast that I just stressed myself out for no reason. Now I have these grey hairs! Once I just started going with the flow and being proud of whichever stage I was at, the things I was so fixated on attaining came to me naturally.
I found podcasting to be really therapeutic during the lockdowns. I definitely didn’t have to worry about whether people would listen to the episodes or not. Ha! Honestly, I felt purposeful because I knew listeners needed to hear me reassure them that things would be okay in one way or another, while making them aware of other things that were happening in the world. Hearing me swear and laugh as I talked my way through each subject, also gave listeners permission to feel their own feelings. It was also really nice to spend so much time with my brother Sadiq because he joined me as a guest in residence on the podcast since we were already in a bubble. Getting to share my podcast with him will always be one of my best memories of an otherwise rather challenging time in all our lives.
I would fall on the floor if I could get Viola Davis on the podcast. I admire her acting skills so much and I fear that if I were to have her on as a guest, I would just breathe heavily into the mic and forget what I wanted to ask her. I would also like to interview afrobeats artist Wizkid, mainly so I could show him my dance moves to each of his songs. Finally I think I would like to have Lewis Hamilton on the podcast now that I have added a new segment to the podcast called Start Your Motors to complement my love of Formula 1. I don’t think he’d accept though, my swearing and random song breaks might lead him to believe that I’m a tad unhinged.
Probably Episode 21: What now? This was the first episode after my pregnancy loss and I can’t believe how early it was in my podcasting journey yet I still insisted on being vulnerable and transparent while showing up to record. Episode 55: Easter Special – Baby Girl and a Baby was great because I announced I was expecting a baby and it was lovely to be able to have such a beautiful and intimate experience to share with my listeners.
I know I have said this before because I love talking to you all! (Kelechi was our Podcast Disciple back in Issue #008!) but it would definitely be The Read with Kid Fury & Crissle. Their podcast is the reason I even thought being a host of my own podcast could be a reality. I love their openness while maintaining their personal boundaries. It is such a hilarious and well presented podcast, I really have no choice but to stan.
I love listening to The Receipts podcast because they’re really wonderful women and funny as hell. I really like Who We Be TALKS_ too. Harry and Henrie are really youthful and vibrant hosts. I was a guest on their podcast a while back and I left proper feeling like they were my new friends, and that speaks volumes about their hosting skills!

]]>Simon Mayo: Well, it’s everything and nothing really. On the one hand, it’s the same because we are still just chatting about films, life, getting distracted by avocados and elementary physics etc, but delivering a number of pods a week has obviously modernised what we do, breaking it down into more digestible chunks. So hopefully the heritage listeners feel well served, and the new listeners feel fabulously welcome.
Mark Kermode: We also have a new studio with a new neon sign – which obviously you can’t see when you’re listening to the podcast. But take my word for it, it’s there. And it makes a huge difference to the listening experience. HUGE.
MK: Wherever we go, and whatever we do, there’s no getting away from the fact that this show is essentially me and Simon sitting in a room, talking to each other about movies (and now ‘cinema-adjacent’ TV) with occasional bickering and a huge amount of input from the listeners. That’s it – that’s the show. So it’s not just that ‘it ain’t broke’, it’s more that ‘it is what it is’. You can take or leave it, but you can’t really change it.
SM: I don’t do “completely different”.
SM: Was this question inserted and written by the production team? Sure sounds like it. No one normal asks that question! However, the answer is yes. Continuity in an upheaval is a good thing and this team has worked with us since forever. The heritage of the program is very important and so understanding that is absolutely essential in crafting the next steps.
MK: Well obviously it’s a huge relief to the listeners that we are still subject to the whims of the Redactor in Chief, meaning that there’s someone reining in all the nonsense. From our point of view, it’s very reassuring to have the same production team because we know that they understand the show, and they get what works about it. Also it means that we can keep using running jokes that are way past their tell-by date, so that’s a bonus.
SM: We didn’t even know it was happening. Someone just said it was being turned into a podcast and we said ok. Whatever that is, it sounds like a good idea. So yes, we were early adopters even if we had no idea what we were doing.
MK: Extremely easy, not least because we’ve been doing the show as a podcast for years. In fact, one of the reasons we moved to Sony was because both Simon and I were aware that if someone said something nice to us about the show it was always ‘love the podcast’ as opposed to ‘love the broadcast’. It began life as a radio show but it’s been gradually mutating into a podcast that happened to be broadcast for many years. Also, it feels really liberating not to have to break for news and sport, which would always take priority on the radio, as indeed they should.
SM: Having very clearly defined roles is helpful. There is only one critic and only one host. My main job is to ask the questions you at home are asking. It’s a choric role, akin to the ancient Greek Chorus explaining what on earth is happening to the audience. So, when Mark is being incomprehensible, I have to step in. That is my job, to interrupt on behalf of the nation.
MK: Simon is the best broadcaster in the world and so from my point of view it’s been a simple matter of shackling my wagon to his star and refusing to let go. To me he’s more than just a friend and colleague; he’s a pension plan.
MK: Pod Save America is my favourite podcast. It has seen me through the grotesque insanity of the Trump years, and it continues to be the best, most accessible, and most entertaining explanation of US politics. It’s addictive and I would advise everyone to subscribe.
SM: Other podcasts? Really? OK well I like The Rest Is History with Tom Holland and Dominic Sandbrook, Unholy with Jonathan Freedland and Yonit Levy and Get Onto My Cloud, Tim Rice’s podcast.

What’s been the game-changer moment for you?
We got our first feature in a printed publication at the end of last year; we were on Hello Magazine’s women to watch list for 2023. We of course went round to every WHSmith and bought every copy.
What episodes should we watch out for?
We’ve had a lot of amazing guests but to be honest, our favourite episodes are our Agony Aunts, which is just us two giving terrible advice (like ‘Got a problem with your ex? Move city or jump in the Thames.) We think it’s just part of our charm.
We just taped one where we give someone advice on an upcoming foursome – there are no boundaries on the pod.
What do the next 12 months hold?
We’re planning a live show in London next year and a small UK tour. Doing live shows is a big part of how we started and we love singing our silly little songs and interacting with the crowd. And of course…season 4!

]]>The Christmas lights are up, the turkey is in the oven, everyone is wearing flimsy paper crowns, and your two favourite uncles are standing in the corner having a weird conversation about batteries… Welcome to The Luke & Pete Show!
The festive season is upon us, and Luke and Pete are bringing you all the world’s stunningly strange stories. From intergalactic conspiracy theories to Elon Musk’s latest attempts to be cool, and lots of questions about Hulk Hogan, all your party conversation starters are covered! … Maybe.
To celebrate we’ve asked Luke and Pete to predict the other co-host’s dream Christmas – what could possibly go wrong?
Pete: In his house – rubbing his eyes as he trudges downstairs for a morning of present opening in the bosom of his young family, pausing only to part the Venetians to see if the lady over the road has illegally put her cones out on this special day.
Luke: Pete will be woken up on Christmas morning in his workshop/shed down the bottom of the garden by one of his dogs. He will rapidly come to the realisation he’s bought hardly any presents, and the ones he’s bought he can’t find. The ones he can find he has no idea who they’re for.
Pete: One of those bags of 10 quid jamon crisps he keeps talking about, or a book about UFOs. A book as big as an Alsatian about Eisenhower’s continuance of the New Deal, 1956-57.
Luke: Anything tech. Anything that can be construed as some kind of superfluous gadget; an electric tin opener, some thermal paste perhaps.
Pete: Me turning up. God, should I?
Luke: I could see the toilet being blocked and he will insist on trying to fix it rather than leaving it alone. For some reason I have an image of him looking confused holding a plunger in a marigolded hand
Pete: Snoozing in front of Only Fools and Horses. Luke’s Dad rocks up with a newly reconditioned park bench and he stretches out on it. Closing his eyes and dreaming of being probed by ALF or something.
Luke: I think of him falling asleep in an easy chair with a glass of something nice on the go, wearing a Christmas hat at a jaunty angle, his glasses falling slightly down his nose and his mouth slightly upturned in satisfaction.
For all your festive frivolities this holiday season, head over to The Luke & Pete Show wherever you get your podcasts.

]]>It might be getting cold outside, but the Championship season is hotting up! And that’s not just because West Brom’s mascot is a man dressed as a boiler. From top to bottom, there is narrative, drama and more narrative!
The Second Tier podcast keeps you in the know all year round. Every Thursday and Sunday, hosts and self-confessed Championship obsessives Ryan Dilks and Justin Peach bring you match reactions and tackle all the topics that fans really care about. It’s all the best storylines, with less of the xG!
So forget the Radio Times’ Christmas TV guide. We’ve got you covered with all the games you need to watch this Christmas from the most entertaining football
league in the world!
Justin: The East Anglian derby hasn’t been contested in almost four years which means the bitter rivals have plenty to catch up on. That day, Ipswich were beaten 3-0.
But fast forward to 2023 and Ipswich have been cruising this season under Kieran McKenna. Norwich, meanwhile, have struggled for consistency in the midst of lots of changes upstairs, meaning that Ipswich have the upper hand in this fixture for the first time since 2010 – when Norwich were a third-tier side. There will be more than bragging rights on offer in this fixture at Portman Road.
Ryan: Did someone say Wagatha Christie: Part 2?! This fixture sees Birmingham boss Wayne Rooney reunited with Leicester striker Jamie Vardy for another round in the ring –
except this time it probably won’t involve phones ending up in the sea.
Birmingham City wanted “no fear football” when Rooney was appointed – but it’ll be hard to stand up to Leicester’s Maresca-ball, which has seen them take 36 points from their opening 13 games.
The sub-plot to this is just too juicy to ignore and my fingers are firmly crossed that Vardy lets his impulsive thoughts win if he scores in this one.
RD: The best Christmas present of all. These two sides both had the best starts to a season in Championship history, and Boxing Day will be the first time they clash.
The big difference between the two is Leicester have been freshly-relegated from the Premier League with a massive budget, while Ipswich are newly-promoted from League One. It’s a mouth-watering fixture with so much at stake, including getting one over their chief rival to win the whole division.
JP: What better way to kickstart a season than a win on New Year’s Day? Sheffield Wednesday will be looking to grab three points after a disastrous return to the Championship following League One promotion last season.
Expectations are completely different on Humberside though, with the ambitious Club President, Acun Ilicali, funding a promotion challenge for Hull City.
An emphatic Ozan Tufan hat trick was the difference in the reverse fixture in August when optimism was still in the air at Hillsborough. However, three points will be vital if the club are going to steer clear of a drop back into League One. Expect a supercharged atmosphere at Hillsborough.
As the Championship kicks into high gear this festive season, Second Tier is your ticket to the real action. Join hosts Ryan Dilks and Justin Peach every Thursday and Sunday for match reactions and discussions on the hottest Championship topics. From the East Anglian derby’s revival to the intriguing clash between Ipswich Town and Leicester City on Boxing Day, the Championship promises unforgettable moments. Don’t miss out on the real blockbuster stories; tune in to Second Tier: The Championship Podcast, where every match is a story in itself. The football festivities begin here!
You don’t want to miss new episodes of Second Tier which you can find wherever you get your podcasts.

]]>The post Top podcast guest appearances – Lou Sanders appeared first on POD BIBLE.
]]>Lou Sanders is a recognisable face on our TVs, often stealing the show. Seemingly out of nowhere she put in side splitting appearances on Hypothetical, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and, of course, Taskmaster. But to those in the podcast world it wasn’t out of nowhere, because she has been tearing it up as a guest on a wide range of podcasts for years now!
Lou’s unique takes on subjects have been what made her stand out on TV and they’re exactly what makes her a consistently hilarious and rarely repetitive podcast guest. Here’s some of our favourite episodes…
DRUNK WOMEN SOLVING CRIME
15: The Mother of All Criminals and Stolen Bermuda Shorts // Nov 2018
DWSC has been one of the blow up successes of podcasting, and, as luck would have it, two of Lou’s favourite things are drunk women and solving crime! The perfect guest, right? Not quite. She’s now sober. But fear not, as that doesn’t hinder her ability to approach the crimes in question from the strangest of angles. It makes no sense that she’s the only sober person. Listen now >>
UNEXPECTED FLUIDS
E4 S2: Sex tech Fails //Sep 2019
Taking your podcast live can throw up all sorts of issues but going live with a podcast about sexual mishaps and mistakes presents its own set of… unique hurdles. So who better for the London Podcast Festival appearance of Unexpected Fluids than the often uncomfortably comfortable Sanders! Lou gleefully shares tales of Tinder terrors, fiancé foibles and so much more… Listen now >>
BIRTHDAY GIRLS’ HOUSE PARTY
New Year’s Eve // Dec 2018
The birthday girls bring party after party to the podcast world… but you don’t bring out a party pro like Lou Sanders for just any do. No, no no. You save Lou for THE NEW YEAR’S EVE PARTY! Resolutions, choosing who to kiss at midnight and international New Year’s traditions all combine to make it a Birthday Girls’ House Party you really don’t want to miss. Listen now >>
FLIMS TO BE BURIED WITH
Christmas Special // 2018
After interrupting many episodes while living with host Brett at the Edinburgh Fringe, listeners were eagerly awaiting Lou’s full appearance on Films To Be Buried With. Sadly, things didn’t go quite to plan. As something of a precursor to her own podcast, instead of “first film you saw?” or “scariest/funniest film”, Lou proceeded to change the questions to “first cuddle you saw?” and so on. Ridiculous, but an unexpectedly tender and bloody lovely. Listen now >>
THE COMEDIAN’S COMEDIAN
110 // Feb 2015
Recorded three years before the episodes above, Lou’s chat with Stuart Goldsmith on The Comedian’s Comedian finds her in a much more calm and reflective mood as she discusses her career to date. Although there are sneak peaks of Lou’s performing persona, the majority of the podcast shows a side that we perhaps hadn’t heard before and allows us to learn about her journey as a comedian. ]]>The post Continental football flavours from On The Continent appeared first on POD BIBLE.
]]>On The Continent is the one-stop shop for all the European football knowledge you need. From the makers of Football Ramble, On The Continent dissects the latest football headlines from across Europe and delivers a deep dive into all aspects of the game. The podcast is led by broadcasting legends Andy Brassell (The Guardian, talkSPORT & Sky Sports) and Dotun Adebayo (BBC 5live) who welcome a range of European football experts onto the pod every Thursday.
And, with each new season comes a new show! Every Friday, the team answers your questions on ‘Ask OTC’. So, if you want to know more about the next generation of superstars or if you’re planning a European football adventure and need travel tips, they’ve got you covered!
So to get a taste of all that and to celebrate the end of qualifiers for Euro 2024, in Issue #029 we thought we’d ask Andy Brassell what he thinks about the tournament next summer. Over to you Andy!
HI ANDY! SO WHO HAS IMPRESSED YOU MOST IN QUALIFYING THIS YEAR?
It has to be Scotland. The less a team qualifies the harder it becomes to qualify with the seeding system, so for the Scots to win their first five matches in a group containing Spain and Norway is extraordinary.
WHO IS GOING TO BE THE DARK HORSE?
I’ve had my share of stick from listeners (and fellow hosts too!) by flagging that Turkey had the players to do well in Euro 2020 (they didn’t), so I’m not going down that road again! Hungary have greatly improved in recent years and in Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai, they have a bona fide superstar in their midst.
WHO IS THE ONE PLAYER READERS MIGHT NOT BE AWARE OF WHO COULD LIGHT UP THE TOURNAMENT?
Maybe Benjamin Šeško of Slovenia. He’s a big centre-forward who Manchester United were very interested in before he opted to go to RB Leipzig instead.
WHICH TEAMS SHOULD ENGLAND BE MOST WORRIED ABOUT?
France, obviously. Not only do they have Kylian Mbappé but they have great strength in depth as they showed at the World Cup.
AND LASTLY… WHY SHOULD PEOPLE SUBSCRIBE TO THE NEW OTC FEED TO FOLLOW THE EUROS?!
As well as covering the big names and big games, here at OTC we pride ourselves on really getting under the skin of subjects and taking the chat in interesting and entertaining directions. Dotun Adebayo and I have such a great range of voices with expertise from all over Europe joining us, so you’ll be covered whichever way
the tournament twists and turns. You’ll have a wide palette of original takes to pass off as your own in the pub!
Go and listen to On The Continent now – bigger and better than ever on its brand new feed! Search On The Continent in your podcast app to subscribe and listen now!

The Moth is about keeping the curture or storytelling alive, Everyone today talks about storytelling and getting the narrative right, from company values, to personal branding and marketing. The only way to become a better storyteller is by listening to amazing storytellers. Listen now >>
I love being exposed to new ideas and new ways of thinking. And the best part about Ted Talks Daily is the variety of lengths, from 5 min to 20 min. I feel so much better spending a coffee break recharging with a Ted Talk rather than mindlessly scrolling social media. Listen now >>
First reason to listen: Sofie is hilarious. The second reason is that everyone at some point asks the question “How do I do life well?”. I love the variety of perspectives and issues she highlights, as well as the feeling that I’m listening to an intimate conversation between friends Listen now >>
