Dan, Scott, Ross, Colin, James and Drummond, the actors behind The Danger Club…
We’re a bunch of actors from London who wanted to relive the days we spent playing Dungeons and Dragons, so we grabbed our dice, built a studio and started recording. It’s an improvised story about 5 heroes who would otherwise be lost that find each other and make one hell of a team on a quest to save the world. But it’s also a real story about six mates doing weird voices and having fun.
The Ricky Gervais podcast, and the Frongpants Network back in the mid 00s. Scott Johnson was doing stuff in terms of niche shows but with professional production that was ahead of its time back then.
We started playing D&D after gigs in pubs around London, after a while friends started asking to come and listen, then strangers started asking too. We decided that it had an audience, and people liked hearing what we did, so here we are!
It tends to be non-gaming podcasts more than anything. In terms of style we try to be our own thing. Anything where there’s laughter and drama and there’s been some love put into making it.
We had Jessica Fostekew on the show and that was so much fun. She’s an old mate from the comedy circuit and Hoovering is one of our favourite podcasts so we’d been trying for years to get her on the DCP. It worked out great, her character had a fight with a pencil, there was an evil calzone, we had fun.
Remembering the fun of it, and persevering. It can be easy for it to feel like it’s just a job when you’ve got editing, social media, booking guests etc. But then we sit down to record and it’s just six best friends having fun telling stories and all the stress melts away. If you can hold on to that then you can do anything.
Episode 21, Carpe DM. It’s the end of the first story arc and pure danger club fun, taking us into a very good string of episodes after. You can absolutely start from episode 1 though. It’s all one story. Also in episode 33 we fight a post office!
