]]>I’m Daisy Mack, I help people find their breath as a way to deal with the stress of everyday life. Spiritual Mixtape the podcast is all about exploring life’s ups and downs and the lessons we learn along the way. Each episode is like a different track off your favourite mixtape. It’s meant to make you feel something – ideally better.
In Spiritual Mixtape, we talk about everything from dealing with change and finding your purpose, to the little moments that bring us joy or challenge us to grow. It’s a place for honest conversations about the real stuff we all go through.
My goal is to create a space where we can share stories, reflect on life’s journey, and find some tools to help navigate this mystery we call life.

It was so long ago I can’t recall. I got into podcasts early on. Around 2006, maybe, before Saltburn era! And back then I can only imagine the spectrum of weird things I would have listened to. I think there would have been a ton of music related podcasts, but spiritual woo woo stuff. So not a lot has changed.
I wanted to make spirituality accessible. There seem to be more gatekeepers than ever with something that should be free to all. I want to share what I know in the hope that the listeners can benefit from the tools I value, like breathwork and meditation. As well as those tough life lessons. My failures have often turned into my greatest assets, but it didn’t feel that way at the time and it would have been comforting to know I wasn’t alone at the time. We are never alone.
This is a long list, but here are my two faves. I love The Imperfects, it’s like listening to your siblings giving you life advice. A friend recommended it and each episode I have two thoughts “I wish I knew that sooner” and “If I can make my podcast half that good I would be winning”. For astrology there is no one better than Molly McCord. I think in life there are some people who hold a frequency so that others can find them and level up to them. Like being on the same wavelength. What an amazing opinion to have of someone you have never met.
Teaching young ones to meditate is a joy. They are naturally more intuitive because they trust their imagination and their senses. When you suggest an idea like “giving your worries to the stars” it’s easy for them to accept. In their mind’s eye they see it and it feels real to them. If I use clear imagery like forests or space, like telling a bedtime story, they slip straight into a meditative state. They have a single point of focus and I try to keep it with breath cues and a fun story.
That’s a great question. Each episode of the pod is a different tool to help the listener grow, heal or feel better in some way. I always find it interesting what episodes touch people. For me, I would say episode 1 is the perfect intro. However, I had the most emails and comments about the grief episode “how to reframe loss as gain“. The reality is if you have found Spiritual Mixtape you are probably on a journey where endings have played a significant role, so that episode does feel fitting.
Come and meet me on socials, stan store or the Spiritual Mixtape site. Beyond the podcast I love to give things away to my mailing list so add your details there too.

]]>The post Joe Wicks: “Podcasts are a chance to enjoy and learn” appeared first on POD BIBLE.
]]>JW: I love that you can listen to them while doing other things like cooking or when you’re out walking. It gives you the chance to enjoy and learn things without having to be glued to a screen. They can also be really inspiring, especially the interview podcasts that talk to different people who’ve been on incredible journeys.
The first one I got into was probably Desert Island Discs. My Dad used to have it on in the background and I used to get drawn into it. That was before it was a podcast though so on second thought it’s probably How I Built This which has really inspiring interviews with entrepreneurs and business owners. I also listened to My Favourite Murder quite early on as my wife is a big fan. They cover different murder cases and can be quite gruesome but they’re really interesting to listen to.
I enjoy listening to some of The Joe Rogan Experience podcasts as he gets some great guests. I mostly check out the shorter clips though as the three hour conversations can be a bit much. The episodes he does with his other comedian friends always crack me up. They’re always winding each other up and it’s like spending time with a group of mates.
I think I’d have to go for How I Built This again just because they’ve had so many inspiring people on there with incredible stories about how they’ve grown their businesses. That or Business Wars which is another great podcast where they talk about the classic business rivalries like Nike v Adidas, McDonalds v Burger King, Xbox v Playstation, that kind of thing. It’s really fascinating.
A lot of people may have heard it as Wondery are a big production company but they do a podcast called Imagined Life, which is really fun. On each episode they guide you through the life of someone really famous but they don’t reveal who it is until the end. So often you’ll go through an episode thinking you know then at the end it turns out to be someone completely different. That’s a great listen and I’d really recommend it.

]]>The post Cally Beaton from Namastee Motherf**kers: Where work, comedy and wellbeing collide appeared first on POD BIBLE.
]]>In her podcast, Namaste Motherf**kers, she shares the microphone with guests to find out what makes them tick, and what makes them laugh. We asked her some questions about her podcast life…
Namaste Motherf**kers is the only podcast where the worlds of work, comedy and wellbeing collide; the podcast where the life-changing stuff happens. With the help of a different celebrity guest or expert each week we get to the stories you’ve never heard before – uncovering not your normal life lessons, but some big ones nonetheless. Each episode culminates with our guest identifying three things: their own Namaste Mother**king life-changing moment, their favourite joke, and the life advice they most want our listeners to hear.
The name sums up the spirit of what I most love about the combination of my career and life to date – wellbeing, emotional intelligence and self-development combined with humour, fun and irreverence.
Having worked in television throughout my adult life I’ve found watching TV a bit of a bus man’s (bus person’s!) holiday so I’ve always loved listening to the spoken word to relax. Until the advent of podcasts it was always the radio, but nowadays it’s audiobooks and podcasts too. It’s rare I don’t have something on in the background during the day and it’s the audio equivalent of people watching. I’m nosy and I can’t get enough of what other people are saying, doing and thinking!
If there’s one thing they don’t need it’s any more publicity but I really love Parenting Hell; Rob Beckett in particular is a genius. I’m also a big fan of WUYN with Seann Walsh and Paul McCaffrey. Paul is outstanding, onstage and on the podcast. And I love Desert Island Discs which I always listen back to on BBC Sounds.
My comedy is, as it says on the tin, purely for laughs – no life lessons required and obviously no-one to interview! It’s observational, intelligent, and feminist and I tell stories about subjects no one else is covering on the circuit. I’m also a big believer in punchlines needing to come thick and fast so there are lots of actual jokes. But don’t take my word for it – come and see for me live!
We have some fabulous guests coming up including: Deborah Meaden, Kirsty Wark, Mariella Frostrup, Richard Coles and Philippa Perry. It’s our 100th episode in March which we’ll be marking with a star-studded compilation of our most famous and popular guests’ life-changing moments – big names, telling the stories of their wow moments. We have some live shows planned for later in the year and there’s even a Namaste Motherf**king book in the works! It’s fair to say that 2023 will be our biggest year yet.

]]>The post Your Floating Bed // a podcast for children struggling to sleep appeared first on POD BIBLE.
]]>I’m Kerry Keenan and Your Floating Bed is a collection of sleep journeys for children. During the first lockdown, my 7 year old daughter, Autumn, struggled to sleep. Like a lot of us, she found lockdown disruptive and unsettling. So I began to create ‘sleep journeys’ for her to help her unwind and calm her fizzy mind. These are simple stories using guided meditation and positive affirmations, where we imagine her bed floating away to a destination of her choice.
Then I heard how Autumn’s friends were also struggling to sleep, so I began sharing the sleep journeys, and that’s when I had the idea of creating a podcast.
Now we are having so much fun building our collection of sleep journeys using listeners’ destination requests.
Dear Joan and Jericha!! (Couldn’t be further away from what I’m currently creating!!!!)
The pandemic has had such a negative impact on people’s mental health in so many ways. A recent survey from the Education Policy Institute UK, The Prince’s Trust, and Parentkind found that it’s children’s mental health, not their education, that is really suffering during lockdown. I knew what we were creating was positively resonating with children, and podcasting felt like an effective way of sharing. Also, to my knowledge there wasn’t many similar options in podcast form. I’ve been blown away by the feedback from listeners, each individual message means so much, and it has spurred me on to make more sleep journeys. I love that we are beginning to build our community of listeners. Since starting the podcast, I’m so proud Your Floating Bed is now being used as a resource for Kidscape who support children effected by bullying. We have also been added to a couple of school mental well-being resources.
I love podcasts. I consume so many. My favourites are ‘chatty pods’ like Adam Buxton and Louis Theroux. Or Comedy pods like Dear Joan and Jericha. I particularly enjoy anything exploring human psychology, like what Dax Shephard is doing on Armchair Expert, or Brene Brown, or Emily Morse or Fearne Cotton.
In terms of what I’m creating with Your Floating Bed, I’ve not really taken inspiration from any other podcasts, as it sort of happened organically. In terms of mindfulness, the work of Emma Lucy Knowles who I met last year, is massively inspirational because she’s a wonder woman and has such a gentle, accessible, and effective approach to guided meditation. I’ve been discovering more podcasts for kids out there and it’s so great that there is such good content for them, such as Peace Out, and Super Great Kids’ Stories.
That doesn’t really apply to my podcast. So why don’t I just say the Dalai Lama?!
Patience. It takes a while to gain momentum. I started this two months ago and I’m still not there. When you are not a famous face, and you are not interviewing famous faces on your pod, it takes time and a lot of hard work to spread the word and build a listenership. I believe in what I’m doing, and hearing positive feedback from listeners has given me the drive to keep creating this pod.
Making the podcast is challenging me in lots of new ways. I’ve really enjoyed doing listeners requests, and some have been a massive challenge. One little girl has asked for a sleep journey to ‘soup’. Her Mum asked if that was too bizarre, but I said nothing is too bizarre! I love the challenge! So watch this space for a ‘soup’ sleep journey!!!
Each episode has a similar format, but is its own journey, and its own adventure. So which destination you choose will depend on how you are feeling at the time of listening.
You can listen to Your Floating Bed on Acast, Spotify and wherever you find your podcasts. You can follow the podcast on Instagram and Facebook.

]]>The post Listen Up, It’s Time To Talk with Alex Reads appeared first on POD BIBLE.
]]>PB: You delve into many serious and deeply personal topics on your show. How does a host create a safe space for their guests when discussing issues like mental health?
ARH: For me, I genuinely care about my guests. I spend a considerable amount of time with them trying to get a sense of who they are, what stories they have inside of them, and how they are feeling. I smile a lot and listen deeply. If that all fails, I bribe them with snacks – always works!
PB: How do you select guests for your podcast and how much research do you do prior to recording with them?
ARH: I do a lot of research. Hours, sometimes days, and if it’s an author I have to read at least 3/4 of the book to make sure I get a good sense of what they’re saying. It’s eye-watering, but I love it. I find people through reading, blogs, Instagram and sometimes people suggest guests to me. There is nothing wrong with cold-calling a few people and just hoping they pick up, or answer emails. You have to be bold and courageous. I made a hit list and keep an eye on what people are doing. I am interested in people, and if I think that they have the best stories to share with my audience, I’ll try to find a way to make it work.
PB: Podcasts about books are often thought of as its own genre. Why was it important for you to incorporate a reading list into your show?
ARH: I love books, and I am working on a book segment for the show to come in September. I think if people listen to the show, they can get an idea that I love reading and suggesting books that move me, inspire me, and help me to live courageously. There is always something to learn. I am a beginner in everything, so there is always something to be gleaned from a good book, and I hoped a reading list would help people get on the way.
PB: How has the podcast evolved since you began in the fall of 2018?
ARH: It has changed so much and bounced from studio to studio. It has reached Top 50 UK Mental Health Podcasts on Chartable, and was on the Top 100 Health list on Apple Podcasts. It also changed from the original name of What Matters with Alex Reads, which my friend Clarissa Pabi helped with at the time. I changed it to Time To Talk because I was writing an essay about why it was “Time to Talk” about mental health and wellbeing, and it just stuck. The essay is turning into a book that is due out in April 2021, and I can’t wait for everyone to read it. It is a conversation around love, connection and belonging from the perspective of men and masculinity.
Alex ‘Reads’ Holmes is a writer and podcaster from the UK, and the host of Time To Talk with Alex Reads. He is currently writing his first book, Time To Talk: How Men Feel About Love, Belonging and Connection, to be released in April 2020. For more on Alex, visit his website and follow him on Instagram.
