Have You Heard? is where the Pod Bible team meet the people behind the podcasts you may not have heard of, but we think you should have.  Today, we’re learning more about STUDIOCANAL Presents – The Podcast, a movie show celebrating and exploring exceptional films and series with a deep dive into STUDIOCANAL’s renowned and world-spanning library. Host Simon Brew tells us more…

Simon – how did you get involved in the STUDIOCANAL Presents – The Podcast?

The idea was being talked about for a little while before it actually happened. STUDIOCANAL has, from issue one, been incredibly supportive of my Film Stories project, from the podcast to the print magazine. Over time, the conversation began about an official STUDIOCANAL podcast, to go through this incredible library of films – just as Film Stories’ own podcast was enjoying lots of success.

Following long and very fun conversations with the STUDIOCANAL team, myself and Jane Long – the show’s brilliant producer – got the greenlight, and it’s gone from there.

What’s been your favourite moment of the podcast so far?

Many. The less obvious ones are the films I personally wouldn’t have discovered, so deep in research I found new movies I really liked. On the podcast itself, Ken Loach taking the mickey out of my Midlands accent was something I didn’t ever anticipate happening in my lifetime, nor discussing Asim Chaudhry’s burner account!

But it’s the range of guests really that have helped lift it so much. Lots of interesting people, most of whom I’d never otherwise be able to meet.

Who’s your dream guest for the podcast?

Well, Kevin Costner is always my go-to, but he hasn’t made any STUDIOCANAL films (yet!). Steve Martin would be a joy, though, as would Guillermo del Toro, Celine Song, Jessie Buckley, James Cameron, and Paddington Bear.

What film haven’t you discussed yet but you’d love to?

Oh, Cliffhanger. They veto me every time! Our production meetings are quite something. I’m still thrilled I got Santa Claus: The Movie through!

Do you think that listeners should have seen the films before listening to the episodes?

No. We’re careful to flag up spoilers, although we’re also conscious that sometimes, given the films we’re talking about, it’s hard to avoid chatting about the ending. But I’d still say no you don’t, but inevitably, you’ll get even more out of the show if you have.

How important do you think it is to use clips of the films in the podcast?

It enriches it. Jane Long won’t like me for saying this, but she’s a brilliant producer and editor, and works really hard to make it sound sleek and professional. I mean, it’s what she’s great at, as anyone who listened to her work on the BBC’s Screenshot knows. But the level has from the outset been high, and the clips are very much a part of that.

This week marks the 35th anniversary of Die Hard – the most impactful action movie ever made! At least that’s according to Hollywood screenwriter Philip Gawthorne, the creator and host of the hit film podcast Die Hard on a Blank, which explores the influence of Die Hard on action cinema, one action movie at a time.

In each episode, Philip and his co-host Liam Billingham analyse a different action film that has some kind of connection to Die Hard – be it through premise, personnel or otherwise. Some of these movies involve classic ‘Die Hard on a blank’ scenarios, like the boarding-school based Toy Soldiers, the U.S. Battleship-based Under Siege and plane-based Passenger 57. But others have more subtle and surprising connections to the original 1988 classic, such as Road House, Ricochet and Harrison Ford thriller The Fugitive.

An LA-based podcast, Die Hard on a Blank is produced by Sugar23 and Michael Sugar (the Oscar-winning producer of 2016’s Spotlight) and it’s already attracting some stellar guests. We talked to Philip when the podcast first launched, but now that the show is really gathering steam, we asked him to reflect on his favourite episodes so far…

Die Hard (Episode 1A and 1B)

We kicked off the show with a two-part double-header on the daddy of the genre: Die Hard. First, we talked through the entire movie scene by scene, discussing moments, creative choices and characters that we love. In the second part we talked about the origins of the film, which was based on a terrific novel called Nothing Lasts Forever and was influenced by earlier movies such as The Taking of Pelham 123, The Towering Inferno and First Blood. I’d only met Liam twice before recording the episode (and never in person) but we just clicked instantly, so I love this ep on a personal level because it also captured the beginning of our friendship.

Licence to Kill (Episode 3)

It’s Die Hard in a Bond movie! I took my research for this episode very seriously because I know how much James Bond means to people, especially in the UK, where 007 is arguably our greatest pop-cultural export. The links to Die Hard might not be immediately obvious, but they are there, and it was also a really fun experience for me and Liam to unpack this film, and its context within the wider Bond canon, from our differing cultural perspectives (I’m British, Liam’s American). Liam grew up on Sean Connery, whereas I was weaned on Roger Moore, but we both love what Timothy Dalton did with the role. Although it’s not necessarily “the best”, this is actually my favourite Bond movie!

The Last Boy Scout (Episode 9)

It’s Die Hard in an LA noir! This is one of the episodes I’m most proud of, and it was also the most vulnerable for me, because the director of the film – the late, great Tony Scott – is one of my biggest heroes, so I got a little emotional talking about him. It led to a wide-ranging, deep dive discussion that encompassed film noir, American distraction and the dark history of Los Angeles. We also talked about (gridiron) football, as I’m obsessed with the NFL, so much so that Kyle Brandt (the effervescent host of ‘Good Morning Football’ on the NFL Network) will be guesting on the pod for our Hard Target episode (out August 2nd). In my first interview with you guys, I said that Kyle would be my dream guest for the show, so to get him was an incredible coup!

Hard Boiled (Episode 10)

It’s Die Hard in a hospital! We were so excited to talk about this incredible movie that we went into a state of hyperactive mania! I absolutely love John Woo and Chow Yun-fat and I just cannot get over how astonishing this movie is to watch. For me, Hard Boiled is like this magnificent, exotic, phantasmagoric vision that was beamed to us from another world – it’s exuberant action cinema at its absolute zenith. By this point we were pretty dialed in to our format, that also includes the ‘Die Hard Oscars’ (with categories such as The Dick Thornberg award for ‘Dick of the Movie’) and our ‘Double Jeopardy’ trivia quiz. We were just having a blast.

Cliffhanger (Episode 14)

It’s Die Hard on a mountain! This was a particularly cool episode as we were joined by Jamelle Bouie, a brilliant and highly influential opinion writer for The New York Times. Jamelle also co-hosts a fantastic podcast called Unclear and Present Danger, where he analyses the action movies of the 1990s through a political lens, and he’s just an incredibly smart, yet completely unpretentious, person. Cliffhanger is one of the more obvious ‘Die Hard on blank’ films, in that it directly replicates the classic ‘Die Hard formula’ (i.e. ‘bad guys take over a blank and it’s up to one person to fight back’) in a different setting, but that setting is a really interesting and unusual one here. We also talked about Sylvester Stallone, Michael Rooker, John Lithgow and the director Renny Harlin, whose background in horror may have influenced this surprisingly gory movie!

Putting the best (and worst) of cinema head to head, Clash of the Titles – a movie podcast is here with all the cinematic scenes, Hollywood horrors, and movie masterpieces coming out of this film awards season! Every Monday and Thursday, hosts Alex Zane, Vicky Crompton & Chris Tilly take two movies with something in common and put them head to head. Through their hilarious hot takes, the trio compare every detail of the film’s life on screen – but only one can reign victorious!

Clash compares the Oscar winners –  and sometimes losers – of years gone past, reminiscing on the cinematic greats, whilst keeping an eye on the current film circulation. Celebrating this awards season, we asked the trio what they thought of this year’s cinema awards season.

Hello guys! So, who are your favourite winners of the 2023 awards season?

Alex: Loved Elvis! So many awards season films are quite slow and in 2023’s social media – infused world of NEEDING CONSTANTLY CHANGING STIMULI, Baz Luhrmann’s frenetic pace to his movies kept me suitably engaged. Also it’s a very good film.

Vicky: Jamie Lee Curtis – when will we finally start believing women when they tell us there’s a murderer in the house, AND when will one receive an Oscar for being awesome in Everything Everywhere All At Once? Oh right, now!

Chris: Big fan of Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio. Making fascism’s rise the backdrop and sticking Mussolini in a kid’s movie was brave, but somehow, it works.

Give a shout out to your favourite ever Oscar winner of all time!

C: The Godfather. Or The Godfather Part II. It’s so hard to choose between them, which made that week particularly tough.

A: Silence of the Lambs. Upon discovering Sean Connery had been close to playing Hannibal Lecter it gave me the opportunity to roll out my appalling Connery impression to deliver Lecter’s lines. So, entirely selfishly, that.

V: I am still very much affected (shocked, traumatised, jealous) by Whiplash; the structure is ludicrously tight, the characters are knotty AF and if anyone clenches a fist near me or looks even slightly disappointed, I am a wreck because of this film.

In your opinion, who deserved to win this year but was just pipped at the post?

A: I’d have liked to have seen Colin Farrell win big for The Banshees of Inisherin. His relationship with Daisy the donkey is one of the most beautiful and heart-breaking that I’ve seen in a long time. Maybe as the owner of the world’s biggest whippet (almost donkey
sized) I can relate to his unbridled love for that animal.

V: Colin Farrell for Banshees in Inisherin, but mostly because he took his son as his guest and I would love to do that. Oscars + a party + free babysitting by A-listers, correct?

C: I loved The Banshees of Inisherin, especially the script and Colin Farrell’s performance. So while it was honoured elsewhere, I was disappointed it got shut out at the Oscars.

Clash of The Titles is the podcast where two movies with something in common go head to head in a fight to the death. It’s a big-screen battle royale and you have front row seats! Spearheaded by Sky Cinema presenter Alex Zane, writer Vicky Crompton and film journalist Chris Tilly, Clash of The Titles came out of regular coffees between Alex and Chris in a Soho cafe on Dean Street. When they settled on the idea, there was only one person Alex would have join them and, after a little persuasion (a few pints at a North London pub), Vicky agreed.

Since the podcast launched in 2018, Clash of The Titles has fostered a real community of film buffs. From raucous live shows to fierce weekly Twitter votes and polls, listening to Clash of The Titles is like sitting down to a biweekly film club with three very funny and knowledgeable friends. And this year, Clashpodders are in control of the first two months of film pairings! Since opening submissions to Clashpodders, Alex, Vicky and Chris have already received hundreds of suggestions.

What’s the best listener suggestion you’ve had so far?

CHRIS: Shrek 2 vs Get Out. The request claimed that both films revolve around a person of colour visiting his rich girlfriend’s white family, only for them to try and steal his identity – which I guess is kind of true? Unfortunately, we already have Get Out plans for Valentine’s Day, when we are pairing it with a slightly more appropriate film, but I love the thought process behind this one.

ALEX: For me, it was The Rock vs Face/Off vs Con Air. A threeway brawl between Nic Cage actioners that resulted in things getting pretty heated in the studio and, while I won’t spoil the result here should you want to listen to that episode, in my opinion, the wrong film won. I was outvoted and yes, I’m still bitter about that. Nevertheless, it was a cracking listener suggestion and meant we were able to talk about the great Nicolas Cage for a whole week and I got to shout ‘CAGE RAGE!’ a lot.

VICKY: Clueless vs 10 Things I Hate About You – a truly fair fight, which led to the discovery that Alex and Chris think Paul Rudd is hotter than Heath Ledger, which is off-the-charts incorrect (no shade on Paul Rudd but please), and has since become my swiftest method for detecting friend from foe. Choose wisely – but in case you missed it the answer is always Heath Ledger.

Tell us about a memorable time you met listeners in person…

CHRIS: After our first live show – which was part of the London Podcast Festival – we invited everyone to a nearby pub. Most of the audience joined us, and we ended up crashing a wedding in the basement bar. Not sure how the bride felt about it, but we had a good time!

ALEX: At that same live show, a lovely listener named Aaron kept buying tequila for everyone. Apparently I tried to stop him from being so generous by taking away his bank card. I say ‘apparently’ because…well, tequila. Anyways, I woke up the following day, only to discover I still had his card in my pocket. So, basically: I stole a listener’s credit card. And that’s the kind of treatment you can expect at our live shows! Suffice it to say, I got it back to him and – there’s a happy ending – we’re off to see Pearl Jam in the Summer.

VICKY: I can’t say too much because I’m close to signing a lucrative deal with a widely available tequila brand, and to overly describe my tired and emotional state in front of our listeners recently due to consumption of the aforementioned tequila threatens my financial future.

In our semi-regular Divine 5 columns we ask podcast hosts to share five of their favourite podcast episodes and tell us why they’re worth checking out for new listeners.

Last time we spoke to Dave and Rich from Unequal Sequel, they told us all about their film podcast that focuses on the sequels to films. Well now it’s time for the sequel to that interview! For part two, we asked them to tell us where new listeners should start, and which episodes stick in their minds…

S01 E01 – Helen O’Hara

It seems a bit convenient that our first ever episode is first on this list, but Helen was such a brilliant guest that we really couldn’t have chosen anyone else. We have both been big fans of Helen’s writing for a long time and we were both blown away when she agreed to be the first guest on our new podcast. Helen’s answers to our daft questions about movie sequels were perfect and she perfectly balances an incredible insight and knowledge of film with wit and charm that instantly puts you at ease. Also we got to talk about Indiana Jones, which is always a winner!

S02 E01 – Nick Helm

We are such big fans of Nick that we were both really nervous before we recorded this episode, but the nerves soon went away as Nick had us laughing from for first minute. One of the things that we love about this podcast is when we get to watch movies that we haven’t seen before and Nick really delivered some crackers. We won’t spoil it but his pick for worst sequel is one of the worst movies we have ever seen! Normally we try and keep our episodes to around an hour, but this episode is a lot longer as there was just too much great stuff for us to cut any out and as Nick says were now BEST friends!

Ghostbusters Afterlife Extra Episode with Seann Walsh

We recorded with Seann in our second episode and we both really liked him straight away. It’s a great episode, but we both agreed that our chat about Ghotsbusters: Afterlife for an extra episode in series 2 was our favourite. As well as our interview episodes we also record an ‘Extra’ episode every week where we review recent sequels or talk about some sequel related nonsense. This was a special one as its the first time we had invited a guest on an extra episode. Seann is such a huge Ghostbusters fan that we knew we had to get his thoughts about the new movie. Seann is passionate, funny and engaging. This is probably the best ‘Extra’ episode we have done, maybe because it’s not just us two!

S01 E05 – Lewis Arnold

Both of us studied film at university and Lewis was in the year below, but it was clear from the first time we met him that he was going to be something special. Lewis has directed loads of award winning TV shows including Broadchurch, Humans, Misfits, Des and mostly recently Time with Sean Bean and Stephen Graham. Lewis’ film knowledge is truly encyclopaedic and he had so many honourable mentions that this turned into an extra long episode, but it’s all great stuff. It was such a good chat that we also had to release an extra ‘Extra’ episode of Lewis talking about directing Time and his other projects.

Our Best, Worst and Dream James Bond Extra Episode

I think that this is the ‘Extra’ episode that we enjoyed the most, which is weird because neither of us are huge Bond fans. We decided to ask ourselves the questions we ask our guests and came up with our Best, Worst and Dream Bond movies. It’s a great episode if you like Bond or not and has a twist because Rich’s dream Bond sequel isn’t really a sequel and doesn’t have Bond in it, but you’ll have to listen to the episode to find out how that works.

What’s the basis of a successful, long-running podcast? An accessible conversation? A discussion that we all want to take part in? Lots of bespoke and sometimes geeky references? Well it’s fair to say Flixwatcher has them all. The format is simple: two guests recommend a film on Netflix, everyone watches those chosen movies and then they join hosts Kobi Omenaka and Helen Sadler to have a darn good chat.

Kobi and Helen from Flixwatcher

Flixwatcher is set to hit 200 episodes, but like any good film series we need an origin story – how did Flixwatcher come about? Helen and Kobi explain:

H&K: We met after we joined a film quiz team together in London and talked about starting a podcast after a few months. We came up with the idea at Kings Cross after we’d been to a Guardian Masterclass hosted by Helen Zaltzman. We chose films on Netflix as pretty much everyone has it and letting guests suggest the films would be more interesting than us just picking our favourites.

The early days: How were the first few episodes?

H: We recorded our pilot remotely, and that was a complete disaster! Kobi kept dropping out, one of the guests was making too much noise and it was all quite chaotic. We decided then that recording four people was best done in person. Thankfully tech has improved massively and recording remotely online at present has been mostly without too many problems. The format hasn’t really changed much over the years but the film selection on Netflix has probably improved as some of the earlier film picks were a bit hit and miss. We do try and encourage people to pick “half decent” films. It’s not as fun to record when everyone is down on a film!

K: We haven’t really struggled to get interesting and fun guests on the show but I often think back to those first few recordings where a few lovely people (especially Dave and Jen from The Family Tree Pod, Dave and Cathy from The Cinemile, Tony and Jay from How to Write a Tune and Felix and Tom from Wooden Overcoats) took a gamble on us and joined us even though we hadn’t released an episode. We wouldn’t be anywhere without those guys so thank you!

Are you both film fans yourself – what do movies mean to you personally?

H: I’ve really missed going to the cinema this past year. Watching a film at a cinema is such a special experience, it’s not just getting to see a film on the big screen, it’s everything from picking your favourite seat, guessing the trailers and overhearing people’s reactions when they’re walking out. They’re the ultimate escapism for me.

K: Of course! You can’t have a film podcast and not love films. It’s been tough not being able to go to the cinema over the past year. I’d probably watch 2-3 films a week in the cinema and hadn’t realised how the experience had been an important part of my self care until it was gone!

What are some of the personal highlights from the previous episodes?

H: We rarely have really, really terrible films to review but when we do it’s usually hilarious – like Ciara Baxendale from Wooden Overcoats podcast picking Bee Movie and when Dave from The Cinemile picked Arq.

Being introduced to Agnès Varda by Jeanette from Sudden Double Deep with Faces Places was an absolute joy.

Having directors like Mat Whitecross for The Other Side of the Wind and Gareth Evans for Enter the Dragon was fascinating! Getting to hear them talk about film from the perspective of directing and creating was so interesting.

Hannah Dunleavy from Standard Issue on the Creed episode describing Sylvester Stallone as a ‘sentient piece of corn beef’ still makes me laugh. I really enjoy it when listeners send their Twitter reviews with creative emoji ratings too.

K: Adam Buxton making a song up on the cuff still makes me laugh when he first came on the show. But I love when people choose films that I would never have chosen in a million years and they turn out to be great and these can be as varied as “All About Eve” to “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before”.

As mentioned by Kobi, Flixwatcher has hosted podcast royalty in Adam buxton and Joe Cornish, but what other guests have they particularly enjoyed?

H: One of the best things about our podcast is we get to meet so many interesting people and hear what they’re up too. Difficult to name only a few but we nearly have a full house for the Wooden Overcoats and Empire Magazine. Recording remotely this year has meant we’ve gone global with guests joining us from New Zealand and America… we had to do some timezone maths to get that to work. For our 100th episode special it was great fun to have Cathy and Dave Cinemile host while we picked the films. We’re looking forward to Sam and Louise from 90 Minutes or Less Film Festival hosting the 200th episode specials.

K: Aww man… I’ve loved every one of the episodes! We really appreciate that people take the time to pick films that we all watch – most people have busy lives! It’s lovely to meet new people, especially as we know very few of them before they join us and we’ve made some really good friends as a result and love being part of the podcast community.

Like anything in life, expect the unexpected…

H: For our first live show at Latitude Festival the original guest couldn’t make it and Aisling Bea was (pretty much a) surprise guest for us and the audience. Back when we used to record in Camden there was a didgeridoo performance in the room next door – that was a surprise for us!

Any dream guests that they would like?

H: The podcast community is amazing, we’ve been really lucky as pretty much everyone we’ve asked has said yes. Kermode and Mayo, Louis Theroux, Edgar Wright, Tailenders (Jimmy Anderson is a big Sandra Bullock fan!) would all be fun guests.

K: Absolutely! From the podcasting world I’d love all of the “How Did This Get Made” crew to join us. Wesley Morris and Jenna Wortham from “Still Processing”, Lauren Lavern and Kirsty Young as current and past “Desert Island Discs” presenters would be amazing, as would Zach Braff and Donald Faison from “Fake Doctors Real Friends” and also Hrishikesh Hirway From “Song Exploder”. From the film world it would be great to hear from more directors, producers and writers so people like Kate Herron, Amma Asante, Krysty Wilson-Cairns, Lin Manuel Miranda…. We’ve also had most of the “Wittertainment” stand-ins join us now so it would be lovely for Sanjeev Bhaskar to join us, but yes, Kermode and Mayo would be lovely to get a “Full House”.

Flixwatcher celebrates – they hit 200 episodes! How does that feel to reach such a landmark, and are we able to look forward to more episodes… another 200 perhaps?

H: It’s an amazing achievement! As long as more films get added to Netflix, people keep listening and guests want to come on we’ll continue!

K: It’s great to be here! I have no idea how many episodes I would have thought we’d get to, but I would have laughed my ass off at the notion of 200 episodes when we started this! We’ll definitely keep keeping on…

“If you have tinsel on the brain and mulled wine in your blood, this is the podcast for you.”

You may have noticed that it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, and is there a more enticing podcast description at this time of year than this? Welcome to Bah Humbug: A Christmas Movie Podcast. I had a talk with host, Helen O’Hara, about the podcast, the importance of Christmas films and the best movie Santas of all time…

It may be fairly obvious as to what this podcast is all about, but where did the idea come from?
Helen O'Hara, from Bah Humbug podcast

Helen O’Hara, from Bah Humbug podcast

I have a horrible weakness for a terrible Christmas movie as well as the good sort, so when I sat down this year to watch the first of the new crop on Netflix (Operation Christmas Drop, god help us) I wondered if enough people were talking about them: what makes them work, what doesn’t work, and how important it is for them to be good anyway… But while I wanted to talk about the slightly rubbish ones, I also thought it was important to have something good in there too, so it wouldn’t be all irony and snark. I mean, that wouldn’t be very Christmassy. Hence the premise of the podcast: I find some dubious thematic connection between these new films and some older favourites.

It has undoubtedly been a challenging year, so how important are Christmas films? Do they really provide nostalgia and comfort or is it all a bit more cliched and bah humbug?

There is a desperate need for Christmas movies in 2020. If anything is going to get us through these last few months before Dolly Parton’s vaccine arrives, it’s going to be goodwill towards men – and these films are full of that. They’re also full of nostalgia, yes, and the comfort of stories we have heard a thousand times. But there’s also a wish fulfilment aspect this year of all years: it’s gorgeous to see people gathered together in large groups, even if we can’t do the same.

Everyone has their list, the naughty list of tawdry Christmas films, but also the premier league tier of comfort blanket films. What would Helen’s list look like?

Call me an old fuddy duddy but there’s nothing to beat It’s A Wonderful Life. Of course I love Die Hard, we all love Die Hard, but it’s not quite as Christmassy so it loses a few points there. And then all the classics: Elf, Muppet Christmas Carol, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Santa Claus: The Movie, Lethal Weapon, you name it.

There must be a secret to a good Christmas film, the right mix of comfort, warmth, community and unity, so what are the ingredients needed to make a truly wonderful festive movie? And how much do we rely on the classic prose?

I think there ultimately needs to be some sort of positive message, whether that’s one about the importance of saving your estranged wife from terrorists at Nakatomi Plaza or the huge effect that one good man’s life can have on the small town of Bedford Falls. I think the best Christmas movies celebrate what we consider best in ourselves and each other: there’s a reason that A Christmas Carol, a story all about trying to be a better person, is the most reproduced story in the whole genre.

Bah Humbug: A Christmas Movie Podcast cover artThe conversations on Bah Humbug have proved eclectic. With Helen taking the lead, guests also provided some much needed yuletide commentary.

Honestly it has been a blast so far. We discussed wartime – and peacetime – military propaganda as it relates to the silly Netflix romance Operation Christmas Drop; what each generation’s conception of Santa Claus says about the sociological health of our society; whether Pottersville looks a teensy bit more fun than Bedford Falls; and whether it’s really possible for there to be three women who look so like Vanessa Hudgens that even their husbands can’t tell the difference.

It’s a burning question and one that needs consideration – who are your favourite Santas (is there a plural for Santa?) depicted on the screen?

There have been some great movie Santas: I have a lot of time for David Huddleston in Santa Claus: The Movie, James Cosmo in The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe, and of course the improbably attractive Santa played by Kurt Russell in The Christmas Chronicles. But the definitive movie Santa for me is Richard Attenborough’s version in the remake of Miracle On 34th Street. He is arguably the kindest of the bunch and certainly the most gentle. Maybe I just saw it at the right age, but I think he’s perfect. That said, I have a lot of time for Billy Bob Thornton’s Bad Santa too. Easily the funniest of the bunch.

Bah Humbug: A Christmas Movie Podcast with Helen O’Hara is produced by the good people at Stripped Media and is available on Acast and all good podcast platforms. Make sure you listen and add your own festive cheer to the proceedings.
