THE BOOK OF JOE – Recent Podcast Highlights #004
Each week, guest writer Joe Ducarreaux picks out his recent podcast highlights in an effort to provide yet more wonderful content for your ears. Joe is an avid podcast listener who has been known to listen to over 40 episodes in just one week. To be honest we’re surprised he found time to write this column…
THIS WEEKS MUST LISTEN:
THE ADAM BUXTON PODCAST
This week sees the highly anticipated return of The Adam Buxton Podcast- one of the finest podcasts around! Following the massive success of his BBC 6 Music radio show, hosted with long-term work wife, Joe Cornish, Adam has recorded almost 100 conversations with some of the most engaging entertainers, writers, podcasters, actors and comedians working in those respective industries today. Interspersed with Adam’s own homemade jingles, Dr. Buckles truly gets the best out of his guests and the goodwill towards him clearly shines through. Particular highlights include his and Louis Theroux’s karaoke session to Sia and Baccarat along with the annual Christmas updates from Cornish’s Tom Cruise Doodle story. To borrow a question from Brett Goldstein, if aliens landed and asked, “What is a podcast?” this is the one to show them. Listen on Acast
EPISODES WORTH A DOWNLOAD:
INSANE IN THE MEN BRAIN PODCAST – MICHAEL SMILEY
Like our host, Rich Wilson, I first became aware of the actor Michael Smiley through his performance as Tyres in the celebrated sitcom, Spaced. Since then he has become one of my favourite actors and I jumped at the opportunity to hear him discussing mental health. Rich Wilson is clearly doing great work in encouraging conversations between men regarding their mental health and is very open and engaging with his guests. It’s fantastic to hear about the trials that both chaps faced with becoming fathers at an early age and there is clearly a love and respect shared between them. This episode really brightened up a fairly rubbish day for me, I urge everyone to give it a listen. Listen on Acast
GOSSIPMONGERS – EPISODE 2: ALISTAIR GREEN
This will have you in fits of laughter. Each episode, the three hosts read through the gossip their followers send in from their local area and school days. They struggle through reading the obscure, the quirky and the downright disgusting rumours from people’s every day lives. Episode 2 includes a particularly brilliant story about an unfortunate chap who, after losing his wife, takes up with a ‘unique’ new partner- to the surprise of his local community. In between each piece of gossip, we are treated to trancy music which, to my ears, is exactly what it would sound like were David Lynch to make music. Hysterical and disturbing in equal measure, I can’t wait to listen to more of these. Listen on Acast
