THE BOOK OF JOE – Recent Podcast Highlights #009
Every fortnight, guest writer Joe Ducarreaux picks out his recent podcast highlights in an effort to provide yet more wonderful content for your ears. Joe is an avid podcast listener who has been known to listen to over 40 episodes in just one week. To be honest we’re surprised he found time to write this column…
THIS WEEKS MUST LISTEN:
DEATH BY 1000 CUTS
Recently a guest on Scroobius Pip’s Distraction Pieces, Tim Clare presents here a fantastic guide to all who wish to succeed with their creative writing. I had gotten gun-shy with creative writing, finding it far easier to write reviews and fact- based articles and such, so it was a delight to discover Tim’s Couch to 80k series. Comprising a writing exercise per day over the course of 8 weeks, the course begins with simple tasks- writing a list of invented character names, a list of objects they may carry with them, problems to be solved by a protagonist etc. all in the time constraint of ten minutes, in which Tim remains silent, then suddenly reappears, without fail making the listener jump! I’m currently in the third week of the course and have found massive improvements, not only in my ability to write continuously, but also my confidence in my own writing. A brilliant listen for writers everywhere!
EPISODES WORTH A DOWNLOAD:
THE JOE ROGAN EXPERIENCE #1306 – WIZ KHALIFA
Wiz and Joe discuss the merits and misconceptions of one of their shared passions- marijuana, the links between the discipline necessary to succeed in the fields of both martial arts and rap and digress to explore what the future of Tesla’s automatic driving may hold. A really entertaining listen, it’s inspiring and motivating to hear the pair discuss the privilege enjoyed when being able to do pretty much what they want.
ID10T W/ CHRIS HARDWICK – TOM CRUISE
Formerly known as The Nerdist Podcast, host Chris Hardwick interviews the great and powerful from all walks of entertainment. It’s possible, when people achieve the super level of fame of Brad Pitt, Beyoncé or even Cruise himself, it’s possible to think of them more as a concept rather than an actual person. Throw into that mix a reportedly bizarre belief system, it would be possible for Cruise to be completely alienated from the average joe. In this conversation, it’s Cruise’s stories about meeting Dustin Hoffman for the first time; driving around to Hollywood’s greatest actors’ houses at night before he became a superstar that brings him down to Earth.
