THE BOOK OF JOE – Recent Podcast Highlights #011
Every fortnight, guest writer Joe Ducarreaux picks out his recent podcast highlights in an effort to provide yet more wonderful content for your ears. Joe is an avid podcast listener who has been known to listen to over 40 episodes in just one week. To be honest we’re surprised he found time to write this column…
THIS WEEKS MUST LISTEN:
SPAWNPOINT W/ KEZA MACDONALD
An important voice in the gaming industry since she was 16, Keza MacDonald absolutely knows her onions when it comes to video games. In this brand spanking new series, Keza examines how her relationship to gaming has changed/is changing as her lifetime hobby intersects with her becoming a parent. Beginning with the mission statement of the podcast, the first show is introduced as not only an entertaining discussion between gamer parents, but also as a space for anyone experiencing difficulties or simply showing they are not alone in the great struggle for finding time to themselves. Keza is joined by voice acting royalty in the forms of Nolan North and Troy Baker, two of the most celebrated performers in the video games medium. Their conversation comes from differing stages of parenthood and the trio offer which lessons they consider most important to impart to their offspring. I can’t wait to see where this show goes!
EPISODES WORTH A DOWNLOAD:
DISTRACTION PIECES PODCAST w/ SCROOBIUS PIP – #278 KONNIE HUQ
Distraction Pieces Network Chair and Pod Bible Co-Overlord Scroobius Pip brought a voice of my childhood into my ears once more with this release! Pip and Konnie bounce excitedly off one another in this fantastic discussion of technology, social media, Konnie’s career (including her long-running stint as Blue Peter presenter) and Konnie’s new podcast Switch Off. One of the more energetic and enthusiastic conversations I’ve heard in the last few weeks, the ideas ping around like an overactive pinball machine, creating a hugely enjoyable listen. Well done to both, an absolute belter of an episode!
THE JOE ROGAN EXPERIENCE #1158 – CHUCK PALAHNIUK
Looking back at the last few Book of Joes, I can tell I’ve been on a bit of a Rogan rabbit hole of late! This great conversation between Joe and the writer of Fight Club covers topics of censorship, of both oneself and from third parties, stories of Chuck being ‘encouraged to leave’ writers groups on multiple occasions and an incredible story of how Chuck was defrauded by someone who had previously worked incredibly close to him. When Joe stops having such interesting guests, I’ll write about someone else, promise.
