INTERVIEWS
Alex Lowe (aka Clinton Baptiste/Barry from Watford) picks his favourite podcasts
Which podcasts do our favourite celebs listen to? In our For The Love of Pod interviews, we ask some famous faces to recommend podcasts they can’t live without. Actor Alex Lowe (perhaps better know for his podcast personas Barry From Watford and Clinton Baptiste) talks us through his top 5 podcasts.
TOP FLIGHT TIME MACHINE
Sam Delaney and Athletico Mince’s Andy Dawson are a fabulous partnership. What started as a funny football chat has morphed into the brilliant existential musings of two middle aged blokes who still have something insightful and hilarious about them. And trust me, as a 50 something man myself, that’s refreshing.
THE ALL NEW ANGELOS AND BARRY PODCAST
Please forgive me for listing a show that I’m 50% responsible for, but I know it would make me laugh if I wasn’t doing it. Angelos Epithemiou from Shooting Stars and Barry from Watford from Radio 2 improvise for ages. A bit like Derek and Clive without the poison.
WTF with MARC MARON
I am sure everyone has stuck this down before but I don’t care. He is so stingfully engaging. His opening monologue has been pretty painful to listen to for a while since the death of his partner, but god it’s honest. That sense of genuine honesty with his audience is carried throughout. He also interviews performers which is fascinating without it being the usual LA pretension.
LIFE GOALS WITH THEO DELANEY
A brilliant idea where celebs and media types who can talk list the football goals that changed their life or in some way reflected a poignant time in their life. Desert Island Discs but with goals. Superb.
BRIAN AND ROGER
Dan Skinner and Harry Peacock in a beautifully crafted sitcom/soap where the format is two blokes leaving messages on each other’s phones. Such a simple format, which leaves a lot to the audience’s imagination as all the best writing does.
